How the calculator works

  1. Revenue is your selling price plus any shipping you charge. If you are VAT-registered, the VAT inside that price is removed because it goes to HMRC.
  2. Marketplace fees use each platform’s commission, fixed, listing and payment fees as set by our team. They vary by category and change over time, so check each platform’s fee page.
  3. Advertising is your ad rate as a share of the order value (for example eBay Promoted Listings or Amazon ACoS).
  4. VAT on fees is added when you are not VAT-registered, because UK sellers are charged VAT on marketplace fees.
  5. Costs are the AliExpress price, supplier shipping, any currency fee and your other costs, plus an allowance for returns.
  6. The break-even and target-margin prices are worked out exactly from all of the above.

Check each marketplace’s dropshipping policy before listing. For example, Amazon requires you to be the seller of record, and Etsy does not allow most resold products.
